Book Blast — March 7, 2023

Welcome Spring! We’ve passed the Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day, and soon St. Patrick’s Day. Thank you to all of the dedicated volunteers who have joined the Book Sale family since the last sale. We cannot run this mighty operation without you! We love the energy and enthusiasm you bring to the warehouse, thank you!

Amazon: Thank you all for our Amazon success in February! In February, Fulfilled by Amazon sold 889 books for $11,863. Fulfilled by Merchant (us) sold 14 books for $1,071. This is 903 books for a profit of $12,934.

Outside Sale: In February we made $945.28 in category sales. Thanks for thinking outside the box. Keep those ideas coming!

New ways to sell valuable books:We now have accounts on ABE, which is a prestigious site for high end, collectible books and an eBay for textbooks and books we are unsure of the value and want to put them up for auction. Although eBay is a new revenue stream, it already accounts for over $150 in sales this year.

Rough Sort: Thank you to all who are Rough Sorting and packing up books for fine sort! Remember as you sort and pack that condition is everything. Please be careful when placing books in high bins and when packing so that books aren’t  getting damaged. Damaged books can not be sold. Please continue to come in to Rough sort during a led rough sort or experienced rough sorters are welcome to drop in anytime. Donations are generally a bit low this time of year, so if there are not a lot of books to rough sort for the whole led rough sort please be patient!
Rough Sort times with a Lead:
Mondays: 1-3pm
Thursdays: 10am-12pm
Saturdays: 10am-12pm

Dealer Sale: The Dealer Sale is coming up on April 15th, 8am-noon. If you are not directly involved with the Dealer Sale as a casher, tallier, or category owner please do not come to the warehouse on April 15th. Volunteers will not have the opportunity to pay off their index cards during the Dealer Sale and it is open only to Dealers.

Birds & Bees Bash: April 29th, at 5:30, at the Beachfront Hilton. Each year Planned Parenthood throws the Birds & Bees Bash as the fundraiser for the Health Centers. All the money we raise at the book sale also benefits the Health Centers. Here is a direct link for more info or to purchase tickets, sponsorships and after hours tickets. We do expect to sell out the event entirely, so we recommend purchasing your tickets and sponsorships early! If you are coming from out of town, there is a room block at the Hilton for the evening of the event. You may reserve a room by clicking here before March 29th. Live streaming is available.

Books that need pricing: If you have a book to be priced, take it to the the sign-in room, fill out a “Book Pricing Form” and place the book into the plastic bin under the table (the bin has a sign). After the book is priced, it will be placed in the racks on the table. You will have a month or so to pick up the book, otherwise we will return it to the category owner. If for some reason you cannot pick it up in a timely manner, please indicate that on the Book Pricing Form. As a reminder, if you want to buy a puzzle or game, complete the Book Pricing Form and place the Puzzle/Game with the Book Pricing Form into the Puzzle/Game bin by the rough sort table or leave it upstairs in the puzzles and games room.

What do the red outlined areas on the floor mean?: Keep this area clear. This is a fire issue.

Where to stack chairs— They cannot be put along the South wall between Cooking and Art. This is an evacuation route issue.Place them to the left of the back door and back by Alan’s office. BTW–This is within a red outlined area, but we think this is the safest place to avoid trip hazards. There should be enough chairs downstairs (about 10). If you take one down from upstairs, please carry it back up.

Again, a shout out to our wonderful volunteers that literally show up EVERY day! Thank you all for reading to the end!

The Chairs,
Christina, Fran, and Eliot
