Book Blast — April 3, 2023

Please DO NOT come to the warehouse if you are ill. The books will always be here and the current iteration of the Spring cold is very contagious and nasty!

That said, the rains are gone and Spring has arrived in Santa Barbara.

Enjoy the longer, sunnier days and see you around the warehouse soon!

Amazon: Thank you all for our Amazon success in March!

Fulfilled by Amazon sold 1,019 books for $12,149. Fulfilled by Merchant (us) sold 24 books for a profit of $2,062. This is a total 1,043 books for $14,209.

Outside Sales: In March, we made $1,031 in outside sales.
What is an Outside Sale? An outside sale is when books, media, or other donated items are sold out of the warehouse, not at our yearly Earl Warren Sale or on Amazon. This is everything from selling vinyl to dealers, eBay sales, ABE, and more. If you have a thought as to increase outside sales, please let us know!

Rough Sort: There will be NO Led Rough Sorts on Thursday, April 13th and Saturday, April 15th. Please be advised that between Tuesday, April 12th, and Sunday, April 16th, there will be no rough sorting as the Rough Sort and Rescue tables are being used for the Dealer Sale on Saturday, April 15th. Rough Sorts will return on Monday, April 17th.
Led Rough Sort Times
Monday, 1-3pm
Thursday, 10am-12pm
Saturday, 10am-12pm

Dealer Sale April 15th: The Dealer Sale is approaching! Although the Sale is 8AM-noon, dealers will start lining up up to an hour in advance. If you are not already working the Dealers Sale as a Category Owner, Tallier, Cashier, or Schlepper, please do not come to the warehouse on Saturday the 15th. You can pay off your book tab note card during the Dealer Sale if you are working at the sale.

Volunteer Appreciation Event: We cannot wait to see you ALL at the June 1st Volunteer Appreciation Event, 1-3pm, at the Brass Bear Uptown. Please RSVP to Natalie Smith HERE if you are able to attend. We need a headcount. Fliers will be coming to the warehouse soon!

Locking Up: Please remember that if you are the LAST one at the warehouse, you are responsible for locking up. This means checking all the outside doors are locked, both in the warehouse and on the Amazon side, turning off all the lights on both sides, and, of course, turning OFF the heater or fan(s). The heater switch is next to room 12 (Cooking/Coffee Table/Sport & Adventure). If you turn the heater ON, it is your responsibility to turn it OFF or to alert another volunteer to turn it OFF. As the temperatures rise, you will also need to check that fans are off.

To recap- If you turn it on, turn it off. If you are last to leave, then lock doors, turn off lights, and turn off heater/fans.

Planned Parenthood Book Club: Planned Parenthood has begun a quarterly book club! If you are interested in joining the book club, please CLICK HERE. You will also see fliers for the book club in the sign-in room and volunteer “walk of fame” hallway.

Newspaper Donations: Though we don’t use newspaper to pack books from Rough Sort, Category Owners do use newspaper to tightly pack boxes going to Earl Warren. If you have newspaper collecting dust at home, feel free to bring it to the warehouse for another life. We’d really appreciate it! Thank you for continuing to bring in plastic packing for Amazon, as we now need both.

Thank you!
